Posted by Carlo Jose San Juan, MD on Thursday, August 21, 2014,

Once again, I reference Irma Eriksson's comic, "Imy"!  In the center panel, Rianne is wearing a version of Imy's classic "ROCK" shirt!  Seriously, if you're even remotely entertained by my comic, you'll love "Imy"! :)  CHECK IT OUT HERE!

Also, for this strip you may find Rianne's "rock on" hand gesture in the center panel a bit unusual. It's not her usual "Sign of Horns", but the "Kitsune", in reference to the "cute metal" band Babymetal. They were first introduced to me by Liz Staley of the c...

7 August 2013 - 17th Anniversary

Posted by Carlo Jose San Juan, MD on Tuesday, August 6, 2013,
Hey everyone!
Well, what do you know?  My little comic strip is 17 years old!  I would never have thought that many years ago that this day could be a reality... yet here we are.
It's still so surreal to me that the once deeply hidden side of me would eventually spawn a second profession.  Thank you to everyone, readers and friends, for being so supportive!  And to those who have expressed just how much my work has brightened your day, as long as I can, I'll move mountains to keep at it...

Hey everyone!  Here's a bonus comic strip for today! :D
Looks like another year has passed and it's Dialogue Free Comics Day once more!  Organized annually by Noel Curry, he explains "Dialogue Free Comics Day" as follows:
"Too often, when writing webcomics I forget that this is primarily a visual artform and so to emphasise that, I’ve set myself the challenge of posting a dialogue free comic on that day..."
I've contributed every year so far and yet it's still hard to kick the...

This hilarious comic strip is by T. Andrew Dempsey, the heart and soul of the webcomic, My Life in the Trenches!

Tim asked me if he could have Rianne guest in his comic as a doctor again, and I was more than happy to oblige!  Tim is one artist I know who gets the good doctor.  In this comic, it particularly shows in her prolonged interjection, "Dear Mother-of-Pearl!"

Guest Art by Andrew Villar

Posted by Carlo Jose San Juan, MD on Saturday, November 26, 2011,

This intense guest work is by Andrew Villar of Ambush fame!  Colors by yours truly.

The original line work of this piece was featured before in the blog.  I thought I'd feature it again in color!  Depicted in this energized artwork is a battle-weary Amber Tiffany whose wounds are being tended to by Callous Comics' Doctors Rianne Nicah and Aimee Queens, who both have apparently seen some action themselves!

Ambush is a regular adventure comic strip published in the Manila Bulletin.  Be sure to fo...

Guest Comic by Michael Phelps

Posted by Carlo Jose San Juan, MD on Thursday, November 17, 2011,
This wonderful guest comic strip is by the indubitable gentleman, Michael Phelps!

Michael does the delightful webcomic, Life on 66, which deals with a group of friends living and working in a small town along the famous Route 66.  You might think life there is slow, but it is filled with adventures big and small!

However, I first encountered Michael through his old comic, Blue No. 7.  I enjoyed it enough to start following him on Twitter (and that explains his Twitter nom de plume, BlueNo7).

This comic page was my contribution to the Indies Maximus anthology/sampler comic book given out last Free Comic Book Day.  It's significant in several ways.  One of the most striking is the fact that it's a longform page, something I'm not used to doing.  It's also a return to Black & White, as the book was printed as such.  Furthermore, the panels were hand-drawn!  In a way, all the back-to-basics was a welcome change from the ever-growing digital aspect of the production of Callous Com...

Oh, Tom... had you said coffee in addition to that, she definitely would have changed her mind!

This impressive guest comic was done by none other than Timothy Dempsey, who does the great comic strip, My Life in the Trenches!

Tim was one of the first friends I made once I began making daily Callous comic strips and is one of the very few webcomic artists that I've met beyond the internet (y'know, in real life)!  We met up in a Starbucks in North Bergen, New Jersey last May and talked about comi...

Guest Comic Strip by Travis Surber

This crossover comic strip was given by Travis Surber who does the funny comic series, Hainted Holler!  It's always a great experience to see how someone else draws my characters and I love this rendition of Cal Duck!

Travis took me up on my offer to do a guest comic for him for my guest comic bonanza/insanity last July 19.  He was nice enough to return the favor for this 15th anniversary milestone!  Thank you, good sir!

This guest comic is by Teddy Pavon, artist of the online comic series, Work in Progress!

I first met Teddy during the 2010 Metro Comic Con, where he and Work in Progress writer, Hub Pacheco, were going around the event floor handing out free copies of their series' introductory chapter.  I once again met the duo at Komikon 2010 when they released the printed first chapter of their comic (which I was fortunate to get a copy of as I heard they sold out fast).
