Certifying the Truth
Personally, I haven't had the experience of someone asking me to make up some medical certification of an illness so that they may have an excused absence from school or work. But I've seen it happen.
However, the tough part is when you know they're telling the truth but due to their illness they were unable to see you while they were sick. Medical Certifications only account for what the signing physician actually saw and examined. A consultation after a period of illness, when the patient is all better, makes things a bit difficult.
I do what I can in such cases, which isn't much. Most of the time, human resources departments are quite understanding, thankfully.
