"Feeding the Doves" Exhibit

My table at the "Feeding the Doves" Art Exhibit

The great Dr. Orestes Monzon, one of my mentors, has had many exhibits of his photographs in the past.  Being a freelance host and voice actor, I had either the opportunity to be a Master of Ceremonies or the honor to introduce him.  However, a few months ago the good doctor noticed my passion towards cartooning and invited me to participate in his first exhibit for 2011.  Needless to say, I jumped at the chance!

Being part of an art exhibit isn't a new thing for me.  I've had work exhibited in the past, albeit not in as grand a scale as this.  Nevertheless, this was a chance to display Callous Comics!  Sure, I've been featured in newspapers and magazines and have had a table in a comic convention, but this is an art exhibit in a gallery!

"Feeding the Doves" turned out to be an exhibit that featured four artists.  A photographer, Dr Orestes Monzon, a painter, Jo Florendo, an Ikebana Flower artist Dr. Lupe Mendoza-Lazaro, and myself as a cartoonist.  I treated it as a chance to portray my work as an art as opposed to a comic franchise, so I set up three comic strips which were placed alongside their pencils and/or line art.

Naturally, I knew I had to sell the comics there as well.  But unlike the period before 2010 Metro Comic Con, I was not willing to print them out myself.  So I finally found an appropriate printing press to do it for me. Once again, I pitched and sold copies of Callous - Chocolate Chip Wishes and Caffeine Dreams!  I also sold button pins.  Of course, I also signed each sold copy and entertained questions.

All in all, it was a load of fun and it was great to introduce Callous to a whole different set of readers.  Thank you so much to all who attended and bought copies of the book!  Brave the World!

"Feeding the Doves" will run until January 29, 2011 at the Philippine Heart Center Medical Arts Building Lobby.
